Birthday at the Jones House

This year signaled a milestone for the Jones house in the birthday department. We set aside the birthday party with half a dozen (or more) hyper kids running about hollering. Instead, Caleb opted for a long afternoon hanging out with a couple of friends.

I like this.

Two of his friends came over in the middle of the afternoon and we went over to Golfland. There were lots of "gimmies" and "do-overs" and more than a few dragging of the golf ball up the hill to get to the hole.

Which was exactly perfect because they were accompanied by lots of smiles, cheers and explosions of laughter when the ball went sailing completely off course.

After Golfland, we picked up some pizza and headed back home. While I frosted the cake, the boys played Legos and Wii. About an hour later two of our cousins showed up with Grandma Jones and we had an instant party for cake, ice cream and opening presents.

Regardless of the way the birthday is celebrated, the true satisfaction for me comes from one of these smiles.
